Barbara Smith (affectionately known as B. Smith), restauranteur, author, designer, decorator and former model diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Smith and her husband (and business partner of 22 years) Dan Gasby, went public with the news in a CBS News interview. At the time she was interviewed Smith could not remember the day, time or year. She said this made her very sad. “I think the future’s going to be fine,” Smith says. “I’m going to do my best to make it work out for me and Continue reading →
God has created such a beautiful world for us. Many of us do not appreciate what we have because we are too busy focused on what we don’t have. This mentality in my behavior can be a tad bit stressful. With that said, on Day Two of 100 Days of Happiness for me, I decided to focus on some of the little things in life and I was very pleased with the results and it made me happy. I LOVE LOVE LOVE mayonnaise and cheese. Continue reading →
Below is the review that I wrote for Yelp. Bobby’s Burger Palace Yelp Review I must admit that I’ve had a crush on Bobby Flay since Food Network first rolled onto the scene. I’m sad to say that I do not have a crush on Bobby’s Burger Palace located at 2121 K Street, NW, Washington, D.C. I was expecting so much more since it was owned by THE Bobby Flay. I mean he is an Iron Chef with several restaurants and television shows across multiple Continue reading →

The Field House is located 1150 Filbert St, Philadelphia, PA 19107. Which is right across the street (which was reminiscent of a tunnel with a light at both ends of it) from the Reading Terminal Market. The Field House looked like a typical sports bar / pub upon entry. Dark wood tables and chairs every where. They had a small stage in the window. No band that day. Just an empty stage. The bar area was also dark wood (counter top and stools). There were plenty of booths in the bar Continue reading →
The BF and I took our first road trip together Wednesday, June 27, 2012. He had been hearing a lot about the infamous Philly Cheesesteak, so I suggested going to Philly to try one. I took him to the two most famous places in Philly for cheesesteaks; Pat’s King of Steaks and Geno’s Steaks; and we decided to do our own Pat’s vs Geno’s comparison. Both places are located across from one another in South Philly at the crossroads of South 9th Street and East Passyunk Continue reading →

I went to Gordon Biersch located in Rockville Town Square, after I saw The Avengers … I loved the atmosphere, however the food was mediocre compared to the ambiance that surrounded it. I ordered the Grilled Chicken with roasted veggies. The chicken and veggies were presented to me hidden under a mound of arugula. I was almost afraid to remove the greens. I took a deep breath and removed them, then rearranged the food on my plate so it would make a decent picture. The Continue reading →
OMG!!! Tommie the server at Copper Canyon Grill made my pre-birthday (day before my birthday) dinner experience a very pleasant and memorable experience. I called the manager over to compliment Tommie to find out he had only been there for a few months. WAYYYYYYY to go Tommie. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger (and added avocado). The burger was grilled to perfection. It went from a huge burger quickly to a burger I had to enjoy with a knife and fork. The bread was so tender. Continue reading →

(top l-r: Asian and West Indies pizzas – – bottom l-r: Hawaiian and Jamaican pizzas) Here is the link to my Yelp Review (see below) of Fresh Pizzeria in Rockville, Maryland. http://www.yelp.com/biz/fresh-pizzeria-rockville#hrid:MoGdO3zus3wqFERPLNS3Eg As I entered Fresh Pizzeria I was greeted by a friendly and courteous staff. Fresh Pizzeria is a cute boutique size pizzeria. However, don’t let the size of the pizzeria fool you. The size of this establishment might be small, BUT the taste is huge. I will definitely go back again as well as refer all Continue reading →

First I must warn you never order this meal if you have to head back to work. I was so full and ready to go to bed after eating this omelet. Anyway, onto the review: This perfectly cooked omelet from Congressional Deli in Rockville, Maryland, consisted of the perfect amount of cheese, spinach and mushrooms. Every bite was so delicious. I was full after half the omelet, but kept eating because the flavors and my taste buds were having a party in my mouth. The Continue reading →
Dave and Busters Bananas Foster Pie Where in the world do I begin. This has to have been one of the most delightful flavor combinations to ever hit my palate. A scrumptious explosion of flavors was released in my mouth with each spoonful of the creamy delicious banana pudding mixed with the slight crunch of the graham cracker shell, along with the perfect amount of banana rum sauce and fresh sliced bananas. My taste buds were jumping for joy as I savored every delicious spoonful Continue reading →
Wow! When you thought you’ve heard of everything. Now if this recipe is not a heart attack waiting to happen I do not know what is. This recipe will have Food Network cook Paula Deen jumping up and down for joy. All of her favorite ingredients mixed together and baked in a circle. For the curious here are the ingredients Brown Butter Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies (adapted from Cooks Illustrated) 1 3/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 14 tablespoons unsalted butter 1/2 Continue reading →
Congressional Deli located in Rockville, Maryland makes the most delicious chicken cheesesteak and french fries. Succulent every time The Deli’s chicken is seasoned and cooked to perfection. The chicken is placed on a toasted sub roll with your choice of toppings. I love lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, grilled onions and grilled green peppers on my hoagie. I have had the pleasure to devour several chicken cheesesteaks in Philly, and must admit Congressional Deli gives them all a run for their money. This works out for me because Continue reading →

I recently made a trip to Philly to take pictures for Spotlight on Jazz and Poetry. I could not leave the city of brotherly love without stopping pass The Hoagie Factory (located at 2121 72nd Avenue) on my way home to get a chicken cheesesteak. My friend Darryl Williams of WDKK Radio introduced me to The Hoagie Factory when we covered the 2010 West Oak Lane Jazz Festival in Philly. The above image was taken with my camera phone (HTC Evo Shift). The hoagie was Continue reading →

Today was a GREAT day. I started my day off by taking my granddaughter to day care, then took my daughter to work. For brunch I had the Avocado, Bacon and Tomato Skillet from First Watch. I added diced turkey and First Watch seasoning. My entree also came with a side of fruit as well as an english muffin. As always my skillet was delish. It was a perfect combinations of flavors on my palate. After brunch I had a call from my significant other Continue reading →
